About Us

What We Believe

Our Beliefs

  • We believe in the importance of deepening one’s personal commitment to Christ and his or her church. Christ’s church is not just another organization or activity among many; it is the central relationship and the essential community that reflects His likeness.
  • We believe in experiences of koinonia (fellowship of the Spirit). (Acts 2:42, Galatians 6:2,1 John 3:18).
  • We believe in personal and corporate evangelism. Every Christian is to be an example of Christ's love to others. The church is to enable each member to take responsibility for communicating the gospel, as led by the Holy Spirit, utilizing his or her spiritual gifts (Acts 1:8, 1 Peter 3:15)
  • We believe in meaningful worship of God, our Creator. Individual, family and corporate worship are not optional but essential for the pilgrimage of the Christian. The church is to lead every person to participate regularly in private, family, and corporate worship as the people of God.
  • We believe in spiritual growth through Christian Education. Growth and development are vital to the Christian's life. The educational ministry is designed "...to bring each one into God's presence as a mature individual in union with Christ" (Colossians 1:28 TEV). The primary document of Christian education is the Bible. We believe that the Bible is inspired by God and is the record of God's revelation to humanity for the purpose of bringing people into an unhindered relationship with God. It is authoritative and is "profitable to teaching, rebuking correcting and training in righteousness, so that the people of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." The Bible is the final authority in matters of conduct, doctrinal opinions, church policy, and religious experiences (2 Timothy 3:16)
  • We believe in participation in Christian missions. Ministry to the needs of the total person is essential to communicating the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To follow Christ is to take the stance of a servant toward persons both in the church fellowship and outside it.

Our Mission

Southland's mission is to be a faith family that strives to be:

TRANSFORMED by God's grace,

NURTURED in Christ's love, and

SENT in the Spirit's power to join in God's redeeming work around the world.

Whether you are sent to the other side of the globe or across the street, we believe that we are people on a mission originated in the very heart of God.

Our Values

Christ-Centered People

We are people whose identity is found in the unique work of Jesus Christ. We believe in Him and follow Him. We are people that reach out to others and choose to be touchable and approachable in Jesus’ name. (John 14:6, Colossians 1:15-20)

Loving Fellowship

We are an intergenerational community bound together by Christ’s love to demonstrate genuine, observable care for each other and the world so that we may be strengthened in our faith. (Matthew 22:37-39, John 13:35)

Kingdom Living Community

We are Christians who live in a relationship with God and one another seeking God’s justice in this world. (Micah 6:8, Acts 2:42-47)

Cultivating Disciples

We are a community which cultivates disciples. We encourage each other toward a deep and growing relationship with Jesus by providing education, small group communities, and a culture of servanthood -- ultimately equipping each other to live out our faith empowered by the Holy Spirit in our everyday lives. (Ephesians 4:12, Hebrews 13:21)
